My canvas has a rubber tube gasket stitched to the bottom of all the panels that come in contact with the glass. I can't see daylight through the bottom of my panels which really helps keep those areas water and insect tight. If they used that in their modification along with a couple of snaps in the right place, you should be able to prevent most of the water from getting in. You could also glue a piece of white plastic moulding on the horizontal surface under the deck fill on an angle to divert any water overboard that runs down there. A lot of guys do this around transitional areas like that to keep water off the floor/carpet.

Same caps, can say that we never smelt fumes comes from them. Since now the boat is put away, I'll be checking for this next season for sure. Nice insight.
