Curious, when the potable pump is turned on I would think the water would shoot out from the inlet with no check valve unless you have a good cap on it capable of 50 psi?
Yes, I cap it off.

If you have a fresh water wash down ....good......but if it uses raw water then you will be introducing contaminants to your fresh water system from whatever body of water you were in. It can still be used just be sure to sanitize that pump and hose work before using for winterizing.
That is the way I did it for years as the connections were side by each.....

....also used the blow out method.
Let me explain a little better. I normally start with my wash down lines. I do this by attaching a hose to the intake of the wash down near the seacock inlet. This hose is inserted into a jug of pink. I flip on the wash down pump power and turn on the front bow faucet until it streams solid pink and then turn off faucet. Turn on transom wash down until I see solid pink. Normally at this stage I am done HOWEVER, I will now connect a hose from the transom wash down outlet to the city water inlet, turn on the wash down faucet and then proceed to turn on any potable water faucet for about 10 seconds. Why 10 seconds? Probably overkill for the short section of line interconnecting to the potable water lines. Point is there is nothing but pink being introduced into the potable water system from the wash down lines.
FYI, I use the same procedure for the potable water by attaching a hose near the outlet of the potable water tank and the other end into a jug of pink using the the potable water pump the same way I do the wash down. Since all my connections are of the quick disconnect type it is really easy to connect and disconnect. Below is a picture of the hose I made up for this purpose. A piece of garden hose with a female 15mm quick connect on the other end.

I use a pancake air compressor.
