Sorry, Just to understand why in a boat, you just don't hotspot your cell for your needs at the time?

If you are just browsing the web and sending emails I agree, hotspot works however when you do streaming such as Netflix and similar then the data will get out of hand. Everything is going web based and its getting to be more and more so this is a good alternative for fast reliable connection at a somewhat reasonable price. This would allow me to get rid of my Intellian dish and Bell subscription as everything and then some is available on the net.

Okay, I agree for the streaming part.

Got my Starlink RV unit last week and did a temp hookup on the boat yesterday more for trial than anything else. Took me about 10 minutes to install and get her up and running. So far it has been working great. no issues streaming or watching netflix.

Starlink and satellite TV do not mix well. Could not figure out why my TV picture was so pixelated it was impossible to watch until I unplugged Starlink and everything was fine again.

Many boaters are turning to Starlink portability. The last time I checked it was $691 for the satellite, and $135 per month for portable, $110 for home use. (US) The portable version is not supposed to be used u defray, though any have ad are using it. The motors in the current version are probably not built for that type of motion in the long run.

Be aware that there is a maritime option that is much more e pensive and is intended for commercial operators. It costs $10k for the two satellites, and $5k a month. Again, targeting commercial operators like cruise ships etc.

It seems if you disable the motors in the dish you get better results on a boat due to the movement such as at anchor. Only issue is you have no more warranty. Not sure I am quite there yet but I definitely am known to change my mind quickly.

Just an FYI for Canadians. The dish will set you back about $1,000 cad after taxes. Then the subscription which can be turned on or off on a monthly basis without fees is $200/month cad after taxes, unlimited. My intention is to use it on the boat until October and then bring it home with me in case of a major internet failure however the subscription will be deactivated unless required. Very easy to remove as it is clipped in place however one may want to purchase a new cable since the one on the boat will probably be fished through the arch down into the boat.

Going to experiment with a small 150w inverter I have lying around to see if it functions easily off this as the unit (wifi router) does require 120v.
