These units are pretty silent, they even have an optional sound shield. My FWD one was pretty silent start of season, but got LOUD as season went on. Last 4 weeks were unreal. I even installed 1” styrofoam in the enclosure, but it didn’t really help.
YEP! wedged into the back of the hatch under the dinette. Still dont know the cost as he hasn’t billed me yet. However, he said it was about 4.5 hours. He must have been a magician! I know he took dinette seat out to get to a small hatch. I will attempt anything, but this one wa best left to the pros! the one under the aft bed was simple. I will let y’all know how bad the sting was when I get billed!

Looking FW to that update. Itemize the costs if possible. My AC is getting real close to puking out, really loud and inefficient, but it is located under the main galley cabinet. Still can't figure out the access. Thanks for sharing! er

The aft one was the DTU 12K, forward is 16K Turbo unit, more expensive, but soft start and very low usage compared to the dinosaur that is in there. CANT’T wait to use it during the heat of summer! I bet it will cool that cabin to ice cube area.

Hi Folks! 1995 Carver 370 Aft Cabin owner. The Salon AC is shot and being replaced. How is this accessed? It’s inside a cabinet to the rear of the dining area. My mechanic who is replacing it is going to cut it open and close it back up with some strips of teak. Anyone familiar with a better way to remove the cover for this?

My 405 aft cabin pretty much the same as your 370 inside. the salon ac is behind a access panel behind the sofa on the port wall right by the bar your picture shows which I would bet yours is. I would pull that out and look. By the thermostat it doesnt look original i bet its already been replaced at some point. You could Take the grill off and shine light in there youll probably be able to see the hvac unit.There should be no reason to cut a new hole to access the existing hvac unit on your boat theres got to be an existing access somewhere for it.

Hi - thank you for the reply. Yes I’ve looked inside of the access screen and can’t seem to figure out how that panel can be removed. It’s not through the inside of the bar in the opposite side and there is no seam I can see anywhere along the length.

I was hoping that someone on here has some boat cabinetry experience and knows how that piece comes out/off.

My mechanic who is top notch came to the same conclusion which is why he said he would have to cut it and put it back/patch it with some teak strips.

I really doubt you have to cut a new hole.

Once you take that grill off, you could stick a camera in there and take a movie in different directions, slowly rotating the camera (phone) so you can see all the various angles. That might give some really good clues on how to get access.
