I don't know but I think it is tough to tell from satellite pics really, imo..... on the ground the reality would be way more apparent.

UPDATE,

Talk about being fortunate. The entire building has passed structural inspection so things are progressing well as for the rebuilding. All condos on the first floor (ours being one of them) where wiped out meaning the ocean broke through the rear ocean facing wall and punched out through the front facing wall. Total loss of everything including walls, ceilings, windows, floor coverings, appliances, showers, toilets and anything else you can think of right down to the electrical receptacles.

The bad news, our personal insurance did not cover hurricanes. Talk about oversight!!

The good news, the condo association's insurance combined with FEMA will cover everything except internal belongings (furniture, TV, personal items) however our personal insurance will cover almost everything.

The great news. The condo is 40 years old and was in need of quite a bit of TLC at this point however it will be built back to new with new walls, doors, electrical and floor coverings. The windows and the 2 massive patio doors were getting corroded with time in the salt air and since they were installed 40 years ago they did not meet todays hurricane standards required now and will be replaced with new hurricane standard units. Estimated time for moving back in is 1 year. Good thing this is not our home but rather a vacation resort for the family.

Unfortunately the palm trees look like telephone poles and the overall beauty will take some time to heal back to its glory days.

That is a silver lining for sure. Mother nature will take care of the rest.

WOW Hans! That is good news. Well, now you're looking for a warm get away. There is an RCL cruise, departing Miami on Jan 13, returning Jan 22. Southern Carribean, 9 nights. Grandeur of the Seas. Great pricing, and more importantly, I will be on that cruise with the Admiral! Glad to hear that although you are having to deal with some crappy stuff, it is working out to a pretty fair ending. er

Already booked for a few weeks in the Caribbean for the holidays and another few weeks around mid February. Guess age is catching up to me as it seems it was not that long ago I always wanted to stay for winter to enjoy the snow and snowmobiling. Seems I prefer warmer temps now and some R&R more than anything else.

Just put the ragtop away for the winter and and the snow tires on our cars. Fired up and checked out the snowblower as we are supposed to get 5-10cm tonight.

Parked my ragtop day before yesterday. She's hibernating till April. We did get 3" yesterday. Melted this morning, thank God. I am not a cold weather person at all. You're right, must be an age thing....but we never have to grow up! er
