I am confused. You say when the pump activates the lid gets forced open and leaks. If it is on the suction side it would not be forced open but rather sucked closed.

Sooooo the replacement strainer will not work because it has a barbed end on one side and the wrong size diameter female fitting on the inlet side. I do not want to add any more fittings or connections, so I would much rather just replace the pump and strainer to a newer style with a more universal connection type. Any suggestions on brands and comparable models to what is currently in place?Pha8 wrote:QR_BBPOST I have a Shurflo 2088-712-244 water pump with a Shurflo water strainer 252-3. When the pump, pumps water, the lid lifts and water spills out the top. I tightened it as much as the lid will go before the plastic piece stops it and still leaks?? The rubber gasket looks to be in good condition. I cannot seem to find a new replacement lid and was wondering if their is a newer model available or if I should just replace the pump with a simular model?

I completely understand that however how does one explain it gets pressurized when it is on the suction side which is why I am confused. The strainer is attached to the inlet of the water pump.
