Zinc does help with lubrication but has side effects at higher levels in gasoline engines. Too much zinc as that found in diesel oils has undesirable effects in gasoline applications, especially hotter running marine engines. And that's where I'll stop beating the dead horse

... yep, but don't marine engines run cooler... raw water cooled thermostats spec at 142 or so in salt.

Not in the combustion chamber, in gear they're always under higher load than an automotive application, always on the verge of pre-ignition and detonation which are taken into consideration in gasoline oil formulations so they handle combustion by-products that can lead to these and other conditions. The rest of the engine doesn't get as hot by design thanks to the cooling and lubrication systems.

I fully agree,..... one point to consider in this though , diesel combustion chambers run at much greater temps than gasoline due to the fuel and compression almost two times in some cases.
W The fact of it is we used the zinc to protect the valve train in flat tappet engines like has been mentioned. Now all the gas engines are roller as far as I know and have been for some time now so no need. Too many opinions out there including mine and yours.
Looks like the saddle has some glue on it...

One must specify which Rotella one is referring to because this Rotella is recommended for Diesels and Gasoline engines.

Should also mention regular T4 Rotella
IS SN rated. What is the SN rating? The newest standard for gasoline engines as can be seen here and does cover engines .
