I have never tried it on the diesel soot, but you might want to try a product called AWESOME CLEANER. It's found at many dollar stores and is a lime greenish color. It works amazingly well on a bunch of stuff and wouldn't be surprised it if worked on that soot.

On my Searay 44 I had Cummins QSC 500 HD engines and would rarely see soot of any kind even thought I ran at hull speed most of the time with occasional runs at 20 + knots. My 506 with 600 hr Volvo TMAD 74Ps seems to produce soot regularly. I have always heard that this is a Volvo trait. I look forward to trying the oil eater, I have used Greased Lightning for engine degreasing but I know it is quite harsh and will surely strip wax and leave streaks if not applied evenly and rinsed immediately.
