Viper, my slips fees are paid in advance to lock down the slip. I guess folks would expect a rebate if their boat wasn't put in the water, and remained in storage, is what I am referring to. Our situation is unlike most marinas as it is not a full service situation, just slips, a pump out and amenities. Marine mechanics are not part of the marina staff. I can see the expenses in the larger marinas being a much larger issue.

Here is what my marina sent me. I also am paid up in full for the season. I did write back telling them it should be linear and not to the Marinas advantage for the first few months.

Greg.....Ours is much the same....we have always payed a deposit in the fall to hold the slip then there are payment plans with various discounts for early payment in full...or you pay in full about 2 weeks before your current lease agreement runs out. One thing we don't do is pay in full anymore, too many things can happen. As always there are many that only pay just before they sign the lift in agreement/order.

This year I asked for a plan from the marina as to how they would go forward...they have not complied yet, so I have decided to just leave the boat and pay a monthly storage fee until such time as there is a clear plan laid out. If they decide to cut me from our chosen slip...so be it....the boat will just be moved.....crickets so far.

Boats in several marinas on Lake Simcoe with covered slips get lifted and blocked right in their slips. I see a challenge when it comes time to lower those that do their own thing but aren't allowed on site prior to launch. While they don't have to move their boat after it gets launched, who hooks up the batteries? Chances are too that those folks didn't leave a spare set of keys in the marina (as should be required), so techs have no way of getting on board to perform that task. The issue is that for this type of launch, you can't just skip the DIY boats and move on then come back to them later, and you can't simply launch if batteries aren't hooked up. Should be interesting to see how they handle that.

As far as leaving boats unattended after launch, it happens all the time. Boats go in, half are locked with no keys at the marina so no way of getting in to check if they are taking on water, so the launch crews keep an eye out for pumps coming on, and often times you don't see some owners come up for weeks after anyway, so it's not uncommon.

I think communication and proper organizing is going to be more important this year than previous ones. That seems to be a problem in your case though Bud

I believe this week we will hear something as they are working on releasing their plan for the health and safety for the patrons. There is a lot to consider to get it right with local health involved.

8 days to launch! Why do I get nervous about engines starting after sitting in storage for almost 7 months? Our marinas are doing well with figuring out how to deal with virus issues, and communicating effectively. The issue of high water is actually providing a more challenging issue. Can't wait. Slip is 25 ft from public sidewalk, gin bottle is 10 ft from cockpit. Gin bottle is not 120 proof, so it is not considered sterile. I can easily isolate and only go to car when no people are around. Quick wipe on door handle, and get in car. Wish you all were having a better time with your marina's!!

This all sucks. First water level to low at start of the season, April 15th>Oct 15th here, then the Virus crap and marina is closed then opened with no bathroom facilities and social distancing, and oh yea the canal locks are tore apart and closed do to the virus and then a 2" rain hits the area and the lake is in flood stage and water in the marina is at the bottom of the docks so to risky to launch and dock the boats till the lake level goes down! Another week or 2 delay, GRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Hans, I heard Ford may be considering/hoping to open Parks by Victoria Day weekend if numbers continue to decline. If he does that, I suspect they'll allow marinas to open to the public as well. We'll see. Fingers crossed for you.

One good thing about this cold weather we are having...... minus last night and snow in forecast... ....it is making it easier not to be boating.
