Re: Welcome to CarverYachtOwners.com!
Hello Everyone,
I'm a total noob to big boats. I went from a 17ft legend to a 1999 Carver Santego 3467. Totally petrified of driving it at first but I think I'm over it now. I don't get out on the water as much as I'd like but I suspect that puts me in the majority.
I've had a huge learning curve (translation: expensive education!!
) about what larger boats are all about. The key is to keep learning and that's what I'm hoping to do here. While my boat experience has been fairly limited, I have an electronics and electrical background that may prove usefull to others.
The wiring diagrams that came with my boat are pathetic...good ones would have saved me hours of bilge crawling. Any one happen to know where I can find accurate ones (with cable numbers)?
We're (My wife Samantha and myself (Niel)) currently moored at Boundary Creek Yacht Club in Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba on the 10th largest freshwater lake in the world. We'll keep an eye out for any members from CarverYachtOwners.

Good luck on anything more than what you have in terms of schematics.

Welcome . I feel your fear and if your over it already you are doing great ! I went from a 28 to a 36 to a 46 and I am really nervous every time I approach to back it in her slip .When I get her in smoothly (most of the time) I tie her up and have a glass of wine to celebrate

ngrower - The only way to get good ( and confident ) in maneuvering is practice, practice, practice. When you start to add some throttle to your turns, it gets better. Don't worry, the boat will not react as quickly as an I/O or OB does. If you know anyone with a zero turn mower, or a skid-steer with steering arms, that really helps with the overall concept. Drive one of those around some obstacles. Last rule: never approach anything at a speed greater than what you want to hit it with.
