Honed the bracket to clean oxidation and junk before I press in the new bearings.

Gr8 job! Any theory as to how that bearing got damaged like that or what caused it to fail?

Warning!!! I pressed the cutlass bearings in today. I applied a healthy dose of Red Thread-locker to both the bearing and the bracket. More is better, WRONG. The bearing made it 3/4 of the way into the bracket before the Thread-locker set up and I was not able to press the bearings in any farther. With a 60 ton press. I had heat the bracket up to loosen the Thread-locker and press them in the rest of the way. The second bearing I only applied a small amount ( couple of drops) of Thread-Locker only to the bracket. They went in with-out any issues.

I was actually concerned after you said you honed the tubes....they are usually designed with a certain amount of thousands press fit.....nice to see they are still tight, once pinned they shouldn't go anywhere.......

Ya I was concerned too. It's a friction fit so doing anything to the bore is risky. They are supposed to be a very snug going in, so much so that it's common practice to freeze the bearings first. This shrinks them just enough to slide in with a tool. You don't need to use thread lock but I'm glad you got it all worked out in the end.

Just got my propellers back from "Propeller Works Inc", a great shop in my area. My propellers looked straight before I sent them, I didn't think they needed anything. But, he did some minor tweaks and balanced them by removing a slight amount of material from some of the blades. They will run ever better now - I can't wait to splash.

Amanphoto, u may be able to splash, but if they don't lower Lake Ontario any like last year, are you going to be able to dock and where you going to be able to go?

Amanphoto, when you removed the struts, was there a spacer between the strut base and hull?
When you reinstalled the struts, was there any thing that concerned you or required special attention?

Our docks float. Deeper is better in my opinion then times they let it get really low and we have to pull early. They may impose a speed limit on the bay that leads to Lake Ontario. That’s a pain.
