Another update...The weather has not been too cooperative around the marina where our boat is located, but the mechanic confirmed that she was able to remove the older cables. Apparently, she only had to remove one panel to do the job. According to her, the cables could possibly be original parts (32 years, yikes!)

I haven't been able to go and check them personally, due to the current lockdown, but she's keeping them for me. Now she's waiting for more parts to arrive. Delivery is slow as molasses, these days.

Just because they're old, doesn't mean they aren't good anymore. My 83 still has the original cables and they work fine.

Exposure to elements or lack of maintenance affects them greatly.

btw, I also use that same logic on my kids when they're talking about us parents.

That's very true. I think lack of maintenance was the key of their demise (we purchased our Santego last year, at the end of the season). The mechanic said they had spots where they were badly frayed and not safe to use anymore.

Well, an "update" of sorts in the cables replacement job. Even though they were ordered in December, the throttle cables are still in back order. Only the lower cables have arrived and that part of the job is done. Waiting time for parts with the pandemic situation are definitely out of control!

Maybe have them double check the order to make sure it has not been somehow misplaced/forgotten or an update was missed.

Yes, thank you for the suggestion. I'll have a chat with the mechanic this week.

I've been checking some parts websites and it seems that cables are in low supply. At least the longer ones.

Do you know the part number and where they're ordering from?

I'm sorry for the delayed update regarding this. Parts arrived on time and we were able to start using our boat by the time marinas were finally allowed to open.

The cables seem smoother to operate than before, although the controller is not the most responsive (it's the original one). We have been climbing up the steep learning curve of taking the boat out of the slip (and berthing it back!). At least is easier to control it than when the cables were really stiff and hard to move.

Glad to hear you got in the water on time and able to enjoy her. Sounds like there's still some work ahead, but hey, that's boating!
