UPDATE AND YOU GUYS ARE THE BOMB

I slept on the boat last night. Got up every 2 hours and manually emptied the forward bilge last night because the breaker would throw.

Hard to believe this piece of rope is stopping the water at that coupler... going to try and attach a video of the water coming in at the shaft which is excessive. Okay video would not load, file error.
So I have 2 more Rule 1500 bilges enroute to me for a Monday install.
I had a new Rule 1500 I had been meaning to install and it got installed today in the front bilge as shown. Tested and it is working great.
I have always taped my connections and quick tied them up working on anything but wanted your opinion. Connection should never see water again but would ya use black tape on the connectors?

Lots of small projects to complete in the next couple months. Bilge areas being dirty is killing me... and has since I bought the boat. Got to make time to clean because I will like a spotless engine and bilge area.

Easier to see if anything abnormal might be happening and Viper thank you for your epic response.

Bud37 it turns out the generator thruhull is fine. Starboard heat exchanger thruhull was hard to open and close, so it got replaced last summer and no issue with it. I do have some horses that are leaking slightly when running but nothing when the generator is off. I plan on replacing most if not all hoses this summer thru fall.

This shaft coupler box was leaking enough water to fill a cup in 5 to 7 seconds. I find no other leaks at this time but I am going to monitor everything and go another day gents.

There is a number of different views of what to do with connectors/joints....I am in the ,leave them open if they get wet they can dry camp. There is heat shrink with sticky stuff that seals, regular heat shrink and the tape. Sometimes with tape etc moisture gets in and cant get out very well, just try to keep the joints out of the bilge area as they can cause corrosion issues with your metals if they are submerged.

So did you get the new packing in ?

My thought exactly on not taping them due to moisture and i will quicktie them up out of harm's way.

No on the packing, I am certain I can complete the task, just would prefer to watch an expert do it the first time.
As long as I have properly working new bilges this should have never been an issue. My mechanic is coming Monday to replace the packing rope for me.

I will be replacing a lot of hoses as well and I noticed a few are single clamped. So everything will get a double clamp upon replacement.
I will keep ya updated on everything and add pictures every now and then.

In reality according to the codes there are only two places that require double clamping, the fuel fill hoses and the exhaust hoses. Be careful as to what fittings you put the doubles on....the barbs need to be long enough so there is enough room to be clamped properly.....if the fittings are too short the extra clamp can cause problems. Seems like good practice if done correctly........good luck man.

I agree once again on being careful on those clamps. Had an older couple wake up to standing water on their cruiser last year, not a Carver.

Turns out the a/c hose had come off and was pumping water straight into the hull. Someone came by early in the morning and noticed the boat sitting low and got them out.
This would primarily be where I would like a double clamp even if they are small clamps, just that little bit of reassurance on hoses such as the a/c and heat exchanger etc.

I don't tape or heat shrink my crimp connections unless I know they will be wet regularly. I make sure to wire tie them high up in the bilge.

Die Electric grease on your wire connections will greatly help stop wire corrosion.

I would just crimp and secure them high enough to stay out of any water that may get to them. You could go all out using shrink wrap connectors https://www.amazon.com/Connectors-Water ... B075TYSD26 but being landlocked on a fresh water lake your corrosion issues are rather non existent.

I agree with Hans to not use heat shrink at these connectors, leaveing them with just the connector, in the future you can verify the voltage at these types of connectors as they are, being open ended.
