Okay gents it does appear I had new packing in the first place just needed tightening up.
So we got it tightened down to 1 drop every 8 seconds and it should need a little tightening again after the next trip out.
He brought a teflon piece with him and was very knowledgeable. So knowledgeable I had to ask how long he has been a mechanic.
Forever he says and I get the feeling he just works for friends or friends of friends when he wants too. He knew everything about my 405 so I ask him about his main business because I was told he is retired Coast Guard.

Well apparently not really retired yet but somehow I dont feel he needs the money. The insurance companies and the Coast Guard ask him to recover sunken boats. He just got home after recovering 288 boats from Hurricane Michael in Florida. I hope I never need him for this line of business.

He ask where I bought my 405 and who did the survey? I told him him and he says he knows most of the survey people including mine.
We looked over the survey and engines. He feels I got a deal and a great boat based on the low hours, work done and his basic inspection.
So a positive meeting and I now how 2 mechanics that I feel are very knowledgeable and who have been doing it forever.

It was out almost all the way to the left if you were looking at it from the top. So he went back to the right a few turns.
I still have alot of threads showing on the right, so I feel it is pretty snug but I could tighten it up alot more if needed.

So the port engine shaft is not leaking at all. Didnt leak any on the trip back from Seabrook Texas either.
I took the boat over to a dock we have to eat Friday night with the engines at idle, then back to the slip.
Checked the starboard shaft when we got back and I was getting 1 drop every 40 seconds on average.

If it ain't broke, why fix it and no water in the hull now. So I will keep a check on them over the summer. I purchased 2 15lb stern anchors last night and a shorter light to go on the top wing.
Slowly but surely I am making progress gents.

This has been a rough year for me losing my mom Jan 14th who was my rock and best friend. She would have been 80 3 days ago April 4th, so April is sucking at the moment as well, but life goes on and we should all be thankful for our friends and family. Pic is of my mom driving my Carver in the Gulf of Mexico last summer.
Ya dont work to hard and spend some time with your love ones  :usa:
