Post by Escandell69 »

Hi there, I purchase a 1989 Montego 25 with twin 3.7 l and 250 hrs of use , what about swapping them for 3.0 without much modifications, thanks in advance. :usa:

Honestly, I would not do that. The 3.0 is 135 HP and the 3.7 is 180. Also, I believe the gear ratios would be different for each engine. That being said, I don't think you'd be happy with the performance of the 3.0s in that boat, and the cost of change over is probably more than getting the one bad 3.7 rebuilt. The 3.7 is a fantastic engine...I had them in my 27 Montego, but you have to keep them tuned properly (NOT the specs that are printed on the tag on the engine...they will detonate if you do that!)

Thanks Kenny, enough reasons to keep them . There's plenty of parts available anyways to the contrary of what some people say!
