Replace wall covering

I took my cloth wallcovering out of the FWD cabin on my 390, it was old, foam degraded, and stained. Found the leaks by rebidding the railing at chinos. It was a total ball doing that! Anyway I am replacing with no pattern Sea Deck or EVA foam. it has adhesive, but will use contact cement also. has anyone put a piece of 96” x 35” up in one piece? Once it hits the contact cement it is game over.

Also, the portholes. I have removed the screws, but the trim ring will not budge. Any tricks? The outer ring is held on the tabby’s and screws. I wat to get the inner ring off so the foam can go under the trim ring.

Just miffed how to get the entire sheet up with hitting it spot on teh first time, as there is no second chance!

The only contact cements I've used you let them dry. Then you can use a sheet of paper to keep the contact surfaces separated until you have alignment, then slide the paper out as you press down.

You might be able to do something similar, just using the backing paper of the self-stick. Leave that on and position the piece (maybe even tape it on the edges in convenient locations), then start peeling the backing paper off and sticking it down.

Wish I knew about that when we did our interior. Wife and I worked together to lay it out flat. Was getting a little high too.

At brides instance I bought the water based contact cement. However it takes an hour to set before it can be used. Oh well stay tuned

If you haven't already done it, you might consider trying some "new to you" adhesive on some scraps first to help know what to expect before you dive into the final project!

Make sure the water based stuff is specifically designed for fabrics and won't bleed through over time.

The water based stuff is junk. It wouldn’t hold the Eva foam to the wood. I had to scrape it all off and reuse with the good stuff. Get high for short money. More soon. Using the backing paper as a sliding base to get it all aligned before the final press.

Weldwood refunded my money as teh cement did not wor. I had to scrape it all off with a wire brush. Using regular contact cement, AND using teh suggestion of the baking paper = SUCCESS! Was able portion and set with no issues. got cold feet for the SeaDeck on the walls forward. SO, since I had it scraped down clean, I used a latex bathroom paint. In my opinion, it looks GREAT! SO much better than that wall covering! Who knows, I may even keep the painted fiberglass!
