Post Poor Mans Inverter Project

I have always been against large inverters as the power removed needs to go back in and this takes time so might as well run the generator for short periods when large draw appliances are needed not to mention this charges the batteries at the same time. I do have a couple of small inverters installed to handle TVs, entertainment and small electrical draws elsewhere.

Well since I am installing a rather large LifePo4 Lithium bank and have solar and the means to charge at 80 amps, I figure what the ...

Post Ventrifigo

Tried finishing up the Ventrifigo swap out. Installed the mounting flange and slid it into place. However, my fears came true. The wire bunch at the back of the enclosure prevent the unit from butting up against the mounting flange. Not a day ruined though. I bought some 1” x 4” pine. I am going to rip it to 2” wide. I need 1.5 inches to just clear the wiring, so another 1/2” for safety. I will mount these spacer boards to the original cabinet, and then paint flat black like the cabinet and moun ...

Post Solar and battery condition

Ready to launch when they say it is my time. HOWEVER, I hooked up the batteries today. They were reading 12.7 volts and at 75%. Turned on the solar and in 2 hours the batteries were bouncing at 88%. That is what will ensure that the genset will not run as much this year.

On another note, when I was hooking up the batteries, I checked the house batteries, 2 6V GC Trojan batteries, 5 years old, strong as new. When I took the caps off, the water was just at the level of the plates. I knew they wer ...

Post Headliner Repair

I have a 2001 Carver 396. I need to repair a portion of the vinyl headliner in the aft cabin. I received a $9,000 quote from a guy who was going to redo the ceiling using formica. I thought this was too high so I want to explore options for doing it myself. My current thought is to create two panels that run from side to side. This refreshes the ceiling and provides me with access to wiring, etc that is currently covered by the vinyl.

The shape is a trapezoid that is ~32" on each side; ~75" in t ...
