Post Spark plugs

Just a question, I removed a spark plug from my 8.1l HO to get the number so i can get new plugs. It’s a AC Delco 12578277 so i go on line to see where i can get them and there are prices from $6.50 to $57.00 each. Why is there such a difference? If hey are the same number they should be the same quality Right??????

Post Gas under carburetor

I was warming up my Crusader 350xl to change the oil, when I lowered the throttle all the way my RPMs dropped and the engine started to sputter. I turned the engine off and smelled gas. There was a pool of gas under the carb, maybe a couple of teaspoons. There is not a visible leak, I soaked up the gas, and no new gas has appeared. I will be contacting a mechanic and not starting the engine, but does anyone know what could have caused this and what the fix is?

Post How to get house paint off gel coat?

Yes, this does sound crazy.

I just purchased a 396 a few months ago, and there are what appeared to be repair patches to the gel coat. Apon closer inspection, this looks like house paint. Any ideas on how I can remove house paint without further damaging my gel coat?

I am slowly discovering the ridiculousness of the way that the previous owner repaired some things on my boat. Luckily, he didn’t have it for very long, and the previous owners before him seemed to take very good care of her.

Post Carver 430 Galley UP refit

I kinda went down a rabbit hole here and decided I wanted the galley at salon floor level. Took some doing but I think it came out pretty good. No changes to the cabins fore or aft nor the heads. Just lifted the galley and banquete and updated the room decor. Guess I just have too much time on my hands now that i'm retired.

Post Rudder shaft repair

Hello new to this forum happy to find you guys.
I am trying to prepare parts for a haul out.

I have a 1983 carver 28' mariner with a stuck rudder I believe the bearing or sleeve was damaged when trying to remove the prop laborer said he heard a crack. He used a piece of wood against the rudder to keep the prop from spinning while trying to loosen the prop castle nut.

I found a few parts but I am not sure exactly what my boat needs and before I haul out I want to have parts on hand to avoid waste ...

Post Fireboy xintex fume detector

I thought I might share this, I hope it is not inappropriate. My fume detector is old and you can no longer buy sensors for it. They recommend replacement every few years. A few days ago I was doing some engine maintenance and sitting on a bulkhead right by the sensor. My Wife had fed me some spicy beans for dinner. And I.... well anyway the bilge fans came on. Took me a couple seconds to realize what happened, but I guess the old fume sensor still worked. :-D Cam

Post Fresh water leak on a 445

I am new to the forum so bear with me. Purchased a 1999 445 3 months ago and have found a fresh water leak slowly filing my aft bilge. The pressure pump to the system cycles when powered with no faucets or showers in use. There are no visible leaks but the bilge continues to fill. Pretty convinced the leak is coming from the holding tank when under pressure. Not sure how to access the tank to inspect it. Any help would be much appreciated.
Merry Christmas

Post 325's

Does anyone know if any of the 325 flybridge aft-cabins we're shaft driven and/or had twin screw diesel's? All I've found is the opposite, direct drive and gasoline engines. Thx!

Post Aft cabin tv replacement

Thanks to this forum, I finally mustered the courage and energy to tackle the aft cabin tv replacement. The OE (old) Panasonic 13” just wasn’t going to cut it. I read horror stories of 30+ nearly inaccessible screws, an unreachable nylon strap, and/or a ton of double stick tape. I’m very pleased to report that on my 2004 366, I was able to:

-pull the trim off with some carefully for efull tugs at each corner where the finish nails were shot in at the factory and covered,

-remove the two long-a$$ s ...
