Hello all and help me out!

Hi all, I'm Edwin from the gulf coast of Texas.

I'm hoping to purchase a 1986 3227 Convertible and am curious if the entire floor at the stern comes off or just the access panels that are clearly removable.

I'm positive I will spend far too many hours in the engine bay to fight with what looks like horrible access.

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide, I hope to be posting pictures of a new to me Carver soon.

Welcome aboard Edwin. If I recall correctly, the entire deck's perimeter is fastened with screws visible topsides. Pretty sure it's one piece. I don't think this is something you'd be removing though on a regular basis. It's big and not light, and may also have had some stuff mounted to the underside over the years.

Viper is correct. It is very heavy and bulky. And most likely has some stuff at least attached for support purposes. The access looks bad, but it is not as bad as it looks as long as you are really skinny and wiry. I still wish the contortionists from the defunct Barnum & Bailey circus would get trained as marine mechanics. Saw a guy in London jam himself into a 2 cubic foot box. He appears at the park where The Eye is located. He could make a great living at marine repairs. Welcome aboard, and think about a survey before purchase. er

Thanks all, you have confirmed my suspicion. I'm about sure the boat will need engine work judging by the 1500 hours on the clock and somewhat neglected condition of the engine bay.

I will definitely get a survey if things progress towards a purchase.

I noticed what looks like erosion of either the prop shaft or the torque tube as well (can't remember which). there was a defined narrowing in the shaft that looked abnormal....... Maybe some fun times ahead.

Hi Edwin, welcome. Unfortunately I have had my deck up at least once a year. As others have said it is screwed into the deck edging all around the edge. To remove take all the screws out, remove the flying bridge ladder, remove the little side storage open compartments (the stbd side has dock water access) make sure your center stainless support is loose under the deck, remove the scupper drains on both sides and finally make sure there is enough play in the trim tab lines that run along the underside of the deck or remove the support screws. Be careful because the center deck support can get a little flimsy. I usually lift mine up from the back and support it with a 4x4. I am going to try to do this lifting up the side closest to the cabin to replace my distributors, or find a very skinny mechanic!
