Yesterday the captain and I were out on the 2006 Carved 36MY "Condo" and experienced a stuttering in the port engine. It was moderate light load 1400rpm, after having just gassed up.
It would run smooth for a bit, then rough, then smooth. I initially thought we'd sucked up some residual water in the fuel tank, and has it trapped in the filter from our most recent fillup.
After we came back, I decided to pull spark plugs to get a read on their condition. Turns out they were OEM from 2006, with 270hrs, and one has cracked insulator. A quick trip to auto parts store got me a new set of exact replacements.
Now a much smoother running motor!

14 years on the same set of plugs?!!!! WOW. That cracked one could have been real trouble. Did you get all the porcelain pieces out? Hope you did get marine plugs. They will not rust like standard automotive plugs will.

41-983 AC Delco platinum plugs where installed OEM by Volvo Penta. These were readily available at O'Reilly autoparts. Since they went 14yrs, I'm hoping the replacements go another +7yrs. No rust on the OEM plugs.

Happened to me but no sputter. 2004 360ss, 650hours. I just bought the boat and wanted to do a complete plug change. PO said they were replaced by the other PO. Original plugs on the boat! Right from the factory with the red paint. Go figure.

I know right! Two PO's and no change, plus we paid for motor inspection, who said they pulled the plugs, but no mention of the cracked one...that had grease in it!I
In thinking I should have bumped up one heat range,as they were carboned up a bit. We'll see.

Newer platinum or iridium plugs are good for 100,000 miles in a car, that's about 1600hrs on a boat.

I agree, I put iridium plugs in the 2 engines. Sit back and enjoy!
