hello all,
I need some help, new to the santego, drain plug was the home depot rubber stopper type that expanded when tightened screw. That scares the hell out of me, and there are two drain holes!!!!
the threaded insert is about one inch pipe thread but the bushing I bought won't thread.
any ideas of what I need to do before filing in with fiberglass and starting new
thanks
Guy

Normally these should be standard pipe thread, usually 3/4 or 1". Maybe someone stripped it somewhere along the line. You could try running a pipe tap through the threads.

Yep, what Tom said, try re-tapping it first. If it feels a little lose after tapping, wrap the plug with Teflon tape or even electrical tape to tighten it up. If you are unable to re-tap it, may be another expandable plug in the bottom hole too. Mike

The older Carvers used a large "t" handle plug made by Perko in their hull bottom. You can still buy the replacement plug for it, but it is expensive. The T handle is to aid in installing and removal.

A picture would help. I'm not following you when you say you bought a bushing. I would consider a bushing to be the smooth brass piece (no threads) in the hull to accommodate the expanding rubber plugs. That style of hull fitting isn't what should be there. It should be a threaded fitting. Check out the pics below...
