New owner of 1988 Carver
I am so happy to find this Forum. My husband and I have gone from houseboating to a 1988, 27' Carver. She needs some work, (especially interior) but we love the design. It is so helpful to learn from other Carver owners. We look forward to any tips and ideas.

Re: New owner of 1988 Carver
Welcome! My (our) previous boat was also a 1988 2757 Montego with twin Mercruiser 3.7LX engines (180 hp). We had her for 15 years and did quite a few mods. Feel free to ask away with questions as I know her pretty good inside and out and also worked at a carver dealer for 30+ years. I still have access to Carver for items (that are still available...which are limited for that age of boat).

Re: New owner of 1988 Carver
Thanks for the warm welcome. Our boat is a single engine, 257 Volvo Penta. Boat is in pretty good shape, engines and outdrives have been replaced. There are several things I am looking to replace, some of it I don't have names for. We do have the manual for it, which helps, but the area around the helm needs to be "recovered" and we are not sure what material we should use. We certainly appreciate all tips and thoughts from the expertise of others.

Re: New owner of 1988 Carver
There are so many things we are looking for with our 88 Carver Montego. I thought finding rugs for back deck would be an easy task. There are already snaps on the deck. Do they need to be custom made? Also trying to find hatch covers, I think the manual calls them dog hatches, the glass needs to be replaced and would like to replace the whole hatch, but in reading other posts, it does not sound like that is possible. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: New owner of 1988 Carver
Typically the deck carpeting is custom made but if you find a good quality outdoor carpet large enough, you can pattern it yourself, cut it to size, take it in to a carpet shop to bind the edges, and if you buy a small snap install kit, you can install the snaps yourself so they match up with the ones already on the deck.
I assume you're talking about the deck hatch at the bow. You should be able to get some manufacturer information off the hatch or call Carver with your hull number and they should be able to give you the part number and manufacturer. If you post a picture, someone here may recognize the brand/model and direct you to a source.
