Webcam at dock?

Hi all, does anyone currently use a personal webcam to keep an eye on their boat? I know some Marina's have them, but I was thinking of putting my own right at the dock. Looking for some pros and cons from people who have them already. Also any information on specific brands/models you use. Where did you mount it? is it wireless? How strong of a Wifi does it take to get a good signal.

Yes I have 2 ip cameras on my boat. One outside and one inside. Inside during the winter I use it to monitor the various temps using wireless temp sensors and have the displays setup where the cam can see them. . On my 405 I have a heater in the engine room and a heater in the aft bilge. I also monitor temps of the inside cabin to make sure cabin heaters are working and also fridge/freezer temps so no suprise there. Outside cam is
Clipped to the Bimini on flybrige and since it is motorized I can move it to see what I want. This works great I have these at home to. It's nice being able to check on my boat whenever I want. Here's what I use they are hd and sd depending on what you choose so depending on wifi they won't be a big hog

I use the nest camera. works great. Also use the digital wireless thermometers set up so that the camera can view them. lots of peace of mind for less than $200.

No I dont. I have considered something for seeing behind me cause I have had times when some idiot boaters are following in such a way the hardtop hides them from view. Have you found something your considering?

I bought the rear camera you put on vehicles from Wal-Mart, about $100.00. I use it to eye my swim platform , but have tilted it up and can see behind the boat as you would a car. I'm sure there are better rear view camera's but for the money it works for me. Mike

I was considering the Rampage wireless backup camera ($100) which creates it's own WIFI connection to an android device. It has a magnetic base and an internal lithium battery with a 8 hour charge. The problem is it is limited to it's WiFi network and will not work with a public WiFi network. So it would work as a rear camera with an android phone or tablet at your helm, but not much good once the android device is out of it's WiFi range. I like the idea of having vision while away from the boat. I also would like the back-up camera when backing into my slip. I think g36's system comes the closes, but as stated it will not operate away from the WiFi it is networked with. i.e.while cruising on open water.The Rampage would.
