Re: 1984 3207 Ignition Conversion
Personally, I would replace both distributers with new electronic Mallory's and new coils and be done with it. Mike

Re: 1984 3207 Ignition Conversion
Thanks everyone one. I went the conversion route. Installed 2 of the Sierra International 18-5296-2 Ignitor Electronic Ignition Conversion Kits.
We also replaced the springs with new OEM mallory springs. Cleaned everything up and well see in a few weeks if that did the trick. I will look at full replacement if this does not work.
The springs we extremely rusted over and looked pretty bad. The weights just needed a light brushing and they looked like new. Again, well see. Once the engines are fired up for the first time this year, mechanic will come back and adjust carbs (Both carbs just fully rebuilt) and time engines.
Thanks all!

Re: 1984 3207 Ignition Conversion
When I re-awoke my dormant-for-ten-years beast, I used the points to pre-time the engine. Rotated engine in direction of rotation and stopped at 8bdtc on compression stroke (valve covers were off when I did this). Hooked up an ohm meter to both sides of the points. Turned the distributor to get the rotor pointing at #1 plug then tweaked it so the points were just opening up.
Poured gas into the carb vents.
Bingo!
Started and running with one or two revolutions. I did have to adjust the timing a couple degrees, because I had to adjust dwell, but I was close.
Later changed to Pertronix.

Re: 1984 3207 Ignition Conversion
Just a final update on the post, we fired up the engines for the first time this year and first time with new upgraded ignitions , new springs and general cleanup of the distro.
Mech set carbs and base and TA timing and both engines ran and sounded great! he primed the system, hit the button and boom they came to life and didn't miss a beat. I couldn't be happier.
Thanks gain for everyone's input and replies. Happy boating season!
