Carver Noobie

Post by smbucher »

I've located a 1985 Carver 2807 Aft Cabin with a single Crusader 350 engine just thirty minutes away. It lived on the Ohio River and has been sitting on a trailer for at least two years. Looks good overall but it will need new canvas, bottom paint and a good cleaning.

Here's my question, is $10,000 too much for the boat and an "undersized" aluminum tandem axle trailer?

I cant speak for the value of a boat I have never seen, but you may want to look for comparison sale prices, maybe on yachtworld.com. I sold a 1988 carver 2757 over 8 years ago for $8000. and it was in very good condition with twin engines. I was happy to get 8k.

A boat is worth what someone is willing to pay! But checking Blue Book Value - this might be useful as a guide:

1985 Carver Yachts
RIVIERA AFT CABIN 2807 Single Engine - Ohio
List Price Low
Base Price $48,295 $8,450 $9,650
Trailer: (change)
1985 Single $290 $325
TOTAL PRICE: MSRP $48,295 Low retail $8,740 Avg Retail $9,975

Good luck!

I second what freeez says. The money spent on a survey will be money well spent. I assume that all surveyors do establish a value for said surveyed boat. I had my 1981 3007 Aft Cabin surveyed and it was definitely money well spent. A couple of things were found by the surveyor that the seller had to fix before I would go forward with the purchase. My Carver surveyed for a bit more than I paid.

Good luck.

It does sound high to me, especially being a single engine and needing probably$3000 + in canvas. I sold my 1988 2757 with twins and AC 5 years ago for $12,500, but they don't bring that now. I'd check around and get one with twins...you'll be much happier when trying to dock

Good point. Docking a single screw inboard is an art! One that I have never mastered.
