Sanitation hose replacement, $hitty job!

Post by tonyiiiafl »

As Holodeck is being launched Thursday This week (YEAH!!!!!) I found time to get the sanitation hose replaced on this 1994 390 CPMY. I ordered 75' of Trident hose and heavy duty clamps. This project SUCKED! However, I know I will not get the odors I was getting topside. I even used 5200 on every joint and double clamped each joint. The hardest part was finding a friend who was scrawny enough to fit in the bilge. Well, I have one and this man could barely get there. The hardest part was running a new length from the aft cabin master to the front of the starboard engine. It took us 9 hours, start to finish. However, marina price was $2900.00 so I know I saved a few dollars.

Launch is Thursday so stay tuned!

Generally speaking when you can do the job yourself you will save money. On my last boat I installed both the GPS and Radar systems and I saved about $2000. Last season I installed both the freshwater system and A/C seawater pumps myself and saved about $600.

Now there are some jobs that I may not attempt. I am getting older 67 and some things are just plain harder to do myself. On my Carver replacing the sanitation hose would not be that difficult. It's a very short run but probably would be a 2 person job.

Working on a boat is not fun most of the time. Things are just to difficult to get at especially on smaller boats. Large yachts it may be a bit easier sometimes just because there is a bit more room to work.

Its a good thing my assistant is 5'4" and 121 LBS! he still couldn't get inside the transmission area, had to squirm his way in and pull him out by his feet for that aft cabin head!
