C37

Post by Ramsport47 »

Yesterday, I went to the Cleveland Boat Show...which was REALLY busy. They finally had a new Carver there after being absent since 2009 or so. The model they had was a 2017 C37 with twin 6.2L Bravo 3 DTS Axxius engines...and was fully loaded. I was a little surprised when there was quite a long line to view this boat, as all the other boats in it's size/ class were walk on and look. Then I boarded and saw why. The boat is BEAUTIFUL!!!! It's the first of the new C series Carvers I had seen, and workmanship was impeccable and layout was perfect...it even had a "basement" with a stair to get down into it. I am so happy that Carver survived the collapse of the economy back in the B**h years. The really seem to have come back to what we all love about our own Carver yachts!

Pricing wasn't bad either....more than the "38" Cruisers Express...which seemed more like a 31 when compared to the Carver, but A LOT less than the Tiara 39 Coronet which had more of a day boat style cabin, but was similar in size. I didn't go to see the Sea Ray boats, as Marine Max made you register to even walk into their booth, and honestly...I don't even like them, especially their new stuff, so...no

The C37 is a nice boat to work on. I've worked on a couple and most of what I had to do I found real easy to get at. Roomy engine compartment for sure. The Axius is sweet. I like Volvo product but I find every Axius application I've operated better than any Volvo joystick I've run. I know Merc had some issues with first generation builds but a few hardware and software tweaks have solved the issues. The Axius controlled sterndrives and Zeus pods respond really nice now.

Sea Trials on two units with 6.2L yielded 38-40 mph. That was a surprise for me. Impressive given the overall design.

A few quirks setting things up, even Merc tech support isn’t up to speed on their new VesselView units yet but once you get going, everything falls in place pretty easily. The new joysticks are awesome. I like the visual feedback the led track provides. The way to calibrate the new autopilots (Raymarine in this case) is cool, no more 360s, just a straight run and you’re done.
Hope to water test a 52 soon. :captain:

I had an opportunity to see the C52 in Maryland last spring. I am not a fan of the blunt bow - but the interior was spectacular. Switching the salon with galley is sheer genius.

That's a take on earlier models of a few brands. I've seen the setup in woodies years ago too, and it seems to be making a comeback.

Me neither, but if 35+kts is real then I might be onboard!
