More Holding Power - new anchor

I have a carver mariner 350 with a 22is pound delta (plow) anchor. To me I think it is a little under sized for my 20,000 pound boat. Where we anchor is mostly silt and sand, but the lake has rocky areas. I'm looking at these anchors for a main anchor on my bow- connected to my all chain rode. They are all galvanized. (note prices are all West Marine for comparison only) I'm leaning towards the Rocna Valcan. Thoughts?

Also note: I often will raft up with other boats and will have more then just by boat hanging on this anchor.

1. West Marine branded 35# scoop anchor. $ 279.99
My thoughts - cheep, but not much surface area compared to others 22 (w) x 30 5/16 (l)

*2. Rocna Vulcan 44# scoop anchor. (very similar to spade anchor) $439.99
My thoughts - like the spade but better looking, won't clog, more surface area then Rocna loop anchor- size: 17 3/8 (w) x 31 13/16 (l)

3. Rocna (one with a bar loop) 44# Scoop anchor. $409.99
My thoughts - fast setting, but loop could get clogged with stuff - 17 1/8 (w) x 14 7/8 x 34 1/8 (l)

4. Spade S100 44# anchor $529.99
My thoughts - expensive, less surface area 14 (w) x 34 (l)

I have a 45lb davis anchor on mine and it weights in at 37,000 lb. It's held me really well in lots of wind including a 70mph storm that put all other boats around me aground behind me. I use it in sand and mud, can't comment on rocks, no rocks where I am.

I would go with a 35lb in this anchor for your boat. You can get it in 316SS or galvanized - awesome anchor and priced very reasonable.

Of course you know you also need to run 7:1 scope and I prefer all chain.

I don't know if they still make them but I also have an awesome chain stopper from them...

I have had quit a bit of experience with Delta, Manson Supreme (very similar to Rocna) and Mantus. My order of preference in everyday use based on quick set and holding power is Mantus/Manson/Delta.

Hans, that is interesting , I have never heard of the mantus before now,some interesting videos...have you used that anchor ?

I have a 22 Danforth, it has held my boat and several others rafted to me in 35mph winds when the proper scope is laid. We anchor in mostly sandy or muddy bottoms in fairly shallow water.

I have a danforth on my other boat. They are a little tricky to set, don't come up clean from the bottom. Plus they rattle on the bow.

My Carver came with a Delta Plow type anchor. I have used it once so far and I am very impressed with the holding power it provides. I anchored in a river with a decent current and it set instantly and held solid until I pulled the anchor to head for home.

Yes, I use a 25lb Mantus for the rear. Had a 35lb Mantus on the other boat. Would use a 35 lb Mantus on Midnight Sun but it came with a fully polished stainless steel 35lb Carver anchor hanging off the front which is similar to a Delta and must say works quite well. It is way to pretty to replace plus I saw the original invoice for $1600 US.
