Front Hatch Weatherstripping

Post by byrnewebb »

I have a 1990 Carver 380 that is leaking around the glass housing and the frame. Prior owners have tried to Silicone the edges where it makes contact with the frame to no avail. I have taken it apart and found that it appears there is weatherstripping on the frame and on the glass. Anyone know where I can get the weatherstripping or if you know of a good fix?

Thank you

I have the same problem on my 3007 1982 aft cabin. I am looking to replace the Hatch cover completely. I have called Carver with no eval, any recommendations.

Hatches were most likely Bomar's and most likely you will not find an OEM replacement. Installing a new one will require filling in the old mounting holes and re-drilling for the new mounting screws. The only other thing I can think of as an interim fix is Flex Seal. Flex Seal comes in white, black and clear. And in several different forms. I would most likely try the clear spray Flex Seal to seal the hatch windows. I have no idea what the UV rays will do to Flex Seal over time, but I'm sure you will find out.

This may help, go to youtube, look up boatworx. They have a video on taking apart and fixing them.
And for what it is worth, silicone is useless.
Use boatlife caulk.
Before you run the caulk. Tape any surface the caulk could ooze out onto, and about sixteenth of an inch from each joint. Lay the caulk, run your finger along the bead to flatten it down, removed the tape. Looks factory when done.

In lieu of boatlife caulk, I have used sonolastic np150 white caulk.
We use it in a food plant and it resists all sorts of caustic and acidic cleaners, very quick temperature swings, stays white, and fits not have any growth form on it.
Thanks
