Carver Mariner Engine Room insulation
I want to replace the foam on the hatches in the engine compartment. They hold water. What else could I use for insulation in the engine compartment?

Whatever you decide on ,it will have to have the proper fire rating....my boat has the same problem on the port side.....much of it seems to get in from under the hatch pull......I have put a gasket under the pull on the deck side with a light compression spring underneath to keep pressure on the pull gasket...this has helped a lot so far. Going to improve it in the spring , parking lot tomorrow .Thats enough this year.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

I don't think any of the egg carton foam has a fire rating (it should) Cut a piece, remove from the boat and other valuable possessions and hold a lighter to it, if its dry, stand back!!!
Consider using a dense fiberglass such as HVAC 1" duct board. Fire resistant and will not hold water like the foam.
