Question about 290 outdrive

Post by dcrahn »

My 1984 Carver Monterey has what I believe to be Volvo's 290 single prop outdrive. Are the footprints the same for the single prop and duo props the same. Very soon we will be doing an engine swap and at the same time I'm planning to have my outdrive rebuilt or upgrade to the duo prop version.

Guess u better check the transom pattern real close! Some one at Volvo should be able to help u or an old salt Volvo Mechanic that's been at it awhile. There is one in ABay, and he's a master tech that teaches Volvo Penta repair.

I have sent a request to Volvo Penta and have yet to hear from them, it's been several days now. I have heard that the AQ 290's are interchangeable, even just swapping the lower units.

I just got my answer from a company that sells and rebuilds outdrives to factory specs. https://powerboatlimited.com/
The AQ290 single and duo prop drives have the same transom footprint or I can just change out the lower units if I want too :beergood: . I figured I should post this info up if anyone has the same question in the future.
