506 Swimplatform

Post by flyingfish »

I was using compressed air to remove water from the raw water condenser cooling system piping for the air conditioners. Noticed on the bottom of swim-platform, where water normally drains for the condensers there was a small amount of water leaking from where the swim platform attaches to hull of boat. Just below and forward of the drains. My question is. Is the swimplatform hollow? And the water discharge is into the platform then out the drain holes.?

Yes, it is completely hollow.

I have an access port I cut into mine and I suck out water a couple of times per season. The water gets in via the caulking around the platform. Your platform is designed to be part of your trim tabs system and aids in getting the big girl up on plane.

Because of this, the platform will submerge just below the water (in freshwater, probably level with waterline in saltwater due to additional buoyancy of salt ) and if the caulking is not maintained, the platform will fill up.

And by fill up - think 100 gallons. The cavity inside is absolutely enormous.
