Cleaning the exterior snap in carpet

Postby yardley99 » December 11th, 2017, 3:52 pm

Any suggestions on cleaning the exterior outside carpet? i would like to start using it but when I purchased the boat it was dirty and looks worn. I was also thinking of dying it and would like to hear from anyone that did that as well.

thanks.

Might be a bit late in the year for this but here is what worked for us......brought home, laid out in drive after beating out debris, used the carpet shampoo stuff we had leftover from the inside, scrub with water and car brush, then some more soap, laundry stuff....scrub some more then rinse real well and left outside hanging to dry......they came out so good we haven't put them back on the boat... :-D ......... :beergood:
The above is strictly my opinion.

My experience is about the same as BUD..... mine are nice a clean rolled up in the basement. More work that they are worth to keep them clean and not smelling when they get wet.......

Same here. Brought them home, power washed a large section of the driveway first, laid the carpets down, then scrubbed with a soft brush using a mild soap, rinsed and hung on the cloths line. After they dried, sprayed them with a fabric guard. Looks brand new but the underside padding is disintegrating so it's just a matter of time before they need to be replaced.

Hang my bridge carpet over a long 2x4 lifted off the ground at each end.
Used a electric pressure sprayer with soap and let it hang in the sun for a couple days.
On the old bridge carpet, the backing was disintergrating and leaving dust.
Replaced it and also purchased the cockpit carpet, clean them both the same way.

Once the backing starts to give up the ghost, the carpet is more trouble than it worth.

On my last boat I used to take the snap in carpeting to my local quarter car wash. I would vacuum them first and beat them against a wooden fence to get out any debris. The off to the car wash. The car wash did a good job for me. They always came out clean. As others have posted powerwashing them should work also.

I've done mine with a pressure washer, soap, etc. and with a household quality carpet cleaner. I got better results from the carpet cleaner. Looks good for most of the season. That does depend on how dirty the dog gets though.
