Haul Out, Items to check?

Postby williamloden » February 20th, 2018, 8:35 pm

Getting ready to have a Bottom Job done on our 1995 430 Carver. Besides this and checking the Thru Hulls,
what other items should we have checked, or be concerned with while the boat is on the hard? Thank you.

Check anodes including thruster anodes if applicable, strut bearings and shaft alignment through the bearings, condition of props, trim tab actuators for leaks. If you have plastic thru-hulls above the water line, check and make sure they are not cracked where the outside flange meets the tube going through the hull. Common place for them to crack over time.

If your boot striping needs repair/replacement in spots, now's the time.

When you say "bottom job" what are you referring to, painting or repair?

Thank you for the reply and items to check.
I think the bottom job will consist of stripping existing growth and paint. And application of new paint. Looking for a
recommendation on paint, as we don't want to do this often. Had boat pulled for purchase survey last May, 2017. Bottom
didn't look too bad. Pretty normal barnacle growth, seems to me.

If you have barnacle growth. I'd be paying a diver to clean the bottom every six weeks or so.
That growth will kill your fuel burn and speed.
Thanks
