BNC Camera

Post by SanJuanDreamer »

My Garmin 741xs has a BNC connection for a camera.
The ones I've seen so for are about $400.
Has anyone used a less expensive camera while using the BNC connector on a MFD?

I have never used one on an mfd. However, a BNC input should be a generic video in. Buy a $49 camera with power supply at BJ's or Costco and try plugging it in without undoing the cables. My bet is it will work. If not, return it.
Go for 900 or 1200 TV lines, a 1080p won't work on the BNC.

Camera picture quality is rated in TV lines, 400,700,900, 1200 an then 720p, 1080p HD. The higher the number the better the resolution.
Most of the 720 and 1080 will not be compatible with the BNC cables and connectors.

The camera comes with a 120vac-12vdc power supply. So, just remove the transformer and connect to a fused 12v power supply on your boat.

As far as I know they are all 12volt. Most come with a 120vac to 12vdc power supply.

I have this camera attached to the "video in" on my Garmin. Works perfectly. I just tossed the small screen once I bought it.

Apologize for the sidetrack.....how has your experience been with the Garmin 741 itself ?

Bud37 - I've had it for about three years, have had no problems with it.
Purchased the Garmin 741xs Combo, which included the 18HD Radar.
Garmin keeps up with OS software updates and a person can buy the map updates.
If I did it again, I would look for a bigger screen.
