Got to thinking about how our world todays revolves around an internet connection and want to set up something good on my boat. Would like the system to be able to be similar to a normal home system in functionality.
Would like to be able to boost wifi signals from as far as possible
When no wifi is available would like to use a dedicated sim card.
Hookup anything just like at home to my router via LAN cable.
Seems like there are a few all in one solutions like the Wirie http://www.thewirie.com
Would really like to see what most of you are using or with all our combined knowledge/experience what can we come up with.

Re: Wifi/Cellular/Hotspot Discussion
Been doing some research today. So far I am leaning towards a Rogue Wave Pro either standard or DB http://www.wavewifi.com/services/rogue-pro/ with a common everyday wireless router. I have had good luck with my Apple stuff over the years so maybe a compact Airport Express would work well. I happen to have a small pure sine wave inverter which I can plug the router into however for those who like to tinker I found a modification to convert it for use on the boat via 12vdc.
If I want to use the cellular method, it is easy to hotspot off of my phone.

Re: Wifi/Cellular/Hotspot Discussion
This what I use for a WiFi extender .
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 2084170762
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 1981129795
Mounts to a marine antenna mount, has 120v or 12v adapters. Works great foe cheap. Has wireless router, but I use my own. No LTE, only downside.

Re: Wifi/Cellular/Hotspot Discussion
I am changing plans as most systems I have found are problematic, expensive and outdated. Almost all reviews I have found date back to 2016. Wifi is changing and many areas require authentication through a web page which is not compatible with the systems discussed above.
I happen to boat in an area where cellular service at LTE or as a minimum 4G is everywhere so no issues here. Yes it is more expensive when using data however the connection is alway there. Need to do more research but this device seems to be just the ticket I need. https://www.netgear.com/home/products/m ... lerouters/

Re: Wifi/Cellular/Hotspot Discussion
Went with a dedicated Netgear LTE modem. https://www.netgear.com/home/products/m ... B1120.aspx and a Google single point wifi router. https://www.amazon.com/Google-Wifi-syst ... ifi+single
Will be a few weeks before I can set this up and report back but it seems rather straight forward.

Re: Wifi/Cellular/Hotspot Discussion
I am currently using an unlimited cell hotspot for my home internet from https://www.calyxinstitute.org/member/membership-levels I use the $600 plan. The $600 covers the device and one years service. It's unlimited and NOT throttled after a certain amount of gigs. There are people that are consuming well over 800-900 gigs per month.
Caylx is a Sprint service but there are other companies that offer similar set ups for the other big carriers
