3607 cutlass bearings

Post by chiroman24 »

I have a 1983 3607 aft cabin. Does anyone know if the main struts have set screws for the cutlass bearings? I have read that they can be hidden and was wondering if I needed to sand further to locate them? Thanks in advance

If they're present, there will be one or two holes on the side of the strut. The only thing that may hide them is marine growth or being full of paint. If you sand down to bare metal and don't see any holes then your application doesn't have them.

I have a 3607 and I'm pretty sure I have set screws. I have not replaced my cutlass, but looked into it quite a few years ago when I was thinking about it and I do think I recall finding screws.

Thanks guys. I will do some more sanding. I thought I had sanded far enough to see, but we have been all over those bearings with a puller, heat etc, and they won't budge. so the adventure continues! thanks for your input!

I can't speak to the 3607, but from what I've read and my own experience there should be two set screws on them. They may not come out and you will have to drill them out. Mine are 1/4-20 allen head.
