Snap In carpet

Post by Kevin »

Just purchased a 2002 Carve r 396 diesel. It's in great condition. There is no carpeting up on the bridge. Where can I get replacement carpeting? Any i go would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Congrats and welcome aboard. Any marine canvas guy should be able you fabricate that for you. A carpeting place can do it too if they can supply marine grade carpet and have the experience to install the snaps properly.

Nice boat congrats! Some online places do the carpet too. They will send you template material, you make your template send it back in and they make your carpet. You will need to install snaps though. I beilieve Corinthian marine does this and a few others. Finding a local guy would be your best bet imo.

I have always cut my own in the past using the old ones as a template then I bring the pieces in to have the cuts "surged" and finally install the snaps myself, huge cost savings. That being said I no longer use carpet in the cockpit since I discovered SeaDek and will never go back. See pictures in my signature.

Doing it yourself like other referred to is very doable and will save a lot. One ting about seadek and similiar I don't know where u are but in the south when it's 95-100 degrees outside you aren't walking barefoot on this stuff it will burn your off. If your in Canada or up north probably different with bare feet. I like the look but if it's in sun watch out. Flybridge with top and sundeck would be nice since shaded

You are talking about PlastiTeak or similar product which I agree is unbearable in direct sunlight and would never have this on my boat, even in Canada. SeaDek is a foam type product by 3m and will not get hot in the direct sunlight. You do know that even if we may be located in Canada it can get to 100F+ and horrendous high humidity to go with that. ;-)

This product is extremely popular on wake boats where half naked women tend sprawl out. :-O Not hot at all under the sun. See here http://www.seadek.com/default.aspx

Do you really want carpet? I've had carpet on the deck and bridge of boats before, and was happier with the nonslip surface when I took the carpet off! Carpet holds water, stains, and gets hot. Nice white nonslip is easy to clean, does not absorb water, will generally not mildew, and stays cool. I took the exterior carpet off my Carver and am happier without it.

Welcome aboard!
I got my carpet from a local carpet guy. Unless we are n an overnight trip, we pull the carpet and put it away every night

I see you are from Kent Island. I lived at the end of route 8 close to the Romancoke pier for about 3 years. Nice quiet place to live.
Thanks
