Compounding / waxing 2018

Bud, I never tried the larger pads, other than a large soft 10" wool pad I do a super quick final with.
I believe there are draw backs to the larger pads, you apply pressure to the center, the pads will flex and I would think little effect towards the far edges? Also when you are in tighter areas, above the vents, windows etc, it would think it would be a PIA to keep your product off of these type of items with a bigger pad.
As far as time, it depends. Like the hull, it held up pretty good from last year, I will hit it twice each side, once with the polish and once with the wax. About 90 max minutes each step (that does not include breaks for BS'ing or beer). The top sides show some chalking, ( I only wax it in the spring, the rest of the year its just washed) So they will take some time. The compounding, at least for me takes, twice as long as the other two steps combined.
Maybe if I did a mid season wax on the topsides it would save some time in the spring?

Has anybody ever used Farecla? I'm a 3M guy but have used this product in the past on painted applications. They have since introduced a line of marine products. Has anyone tried this product?

There is an outfit here in Ontario that sells various Lake country pads, all kinds of supplies, buffers etc,......still looking to find someone to do this job for me.......
One thing that makes me nervous is online buying now...the last time recently from a different place , got a call from Visa, someone was using that number in Switzerland .....good thing had a low limit card. Spent mucho, mucho money over the years with Summit racing and never had one problem....oh well...

I am using a two step process this year utilizing Collinite products. First round the cleaner and second is the paste wax.
I also use a 10 inch orbital buffer with lambs wool hood. It’s a work intensive process but hey....it’s for our boat and something that brings pleasure into our lives.

I always did my own in the past due to the ridiculous cost these guys charge but tried someone last year that did a fantastic job for peanuts so to say so I am sticking with him. The real estate on the 41 is a mega job and will gladly farm this out if the price is reasonable. Typical price to do mine locally is somewhere in the 3-4 thousand dollar range. My new find does it for $900.

denpooch, if your using a 10" orbital buffer try one of the 6.5" electronic variable speed buffers. Even though they are smaller, they work about 4x as fast, and you can put some pretty good torque to them for heavily oxidized areas and they wont slow or stall like a random orbit.

I agree with that, I actually use both ......compound with the variable, then apply and buff wax with the 10" orbital....try to go up the ladder once for both....young mans job.. ..
