Chart Plotter

Post by boatmaster »

I have a Lowrance Global Map 3500C on my 86 Mariner and the screen is going bad. I want to replace with an updated chart plotter. What are the best for my model of boat?

Welcome aboard!
You'll get a bunch of responses for favorite brands.
All the manufacturers make decent stuff.
Thanks

As mentioned they all make good stuff. The most popular brands are Raymarine and Garmin. Personally I use the a series from Raymarine. The a series are rather cheap right now as the line has been discontinued and replaced by Axiom and es series. I use a 12" and a 7"

Welcome aboard.
The Raymarine Axioms are nice units. Garmins are good units as well, very popular and very intuitive, easy learning curve. Simrad, Furuno...$$$ How deep are your pockets? Sky's the limit here. Do your homework, some units will accept a direct depth transducer hookup while other must be hooked up to a separate computer first ($$). All the newer stuff will be NMEA 2000 now so no worries there. Some will have a built-in GPS antenna which will save you running a separate antenna and cable. Go with the biggest screen your budget and space allows, you'll be glad later that you did.

Depends on your preferences. I personally like Garmin but like others have said they all are pretty good at what they do.

So who does not have touch screen, internal antenna and ease of use nowadays I ask? :captain: Kinda nice to clean up the arch and get rid of a few defunct antennas associated with the older stuff. I got rid of no less than 3! when I updated my electronics :-O

Thanks for the input. I have a Fusion sound system and I know that Garmin has acquired them. I would hope that the compatability would be smooth.
