There was a guy at our marina that got 2 or 3 years out of it. He took it off carefully, stored it, and the reinstalled it on a frame he built and the marina would just re-shrink it in the fall.
A little info for some folk......local guy had his little tug out yesterday trying to break up some ice in the bay.....we now have two open stretches from west side to the east halfway up.....not long now, but we still have 3' between our boat and next though, maybe by monday/tuesday can get in there to start boat prep....... .......
Edit, hot off the presses .....snow in the forecast for both Sat and Sun.....mm,mm,mm,mm,mm....
So if there is anyone still following along with this long drawn out painful tale here is a little more, enjoy......now if you can believe this or not.....woke up to a dusting of the white stuff again which has now gone but nevertheless and has squeaked up to 40F( 4C ).....the bay has now some open stretches thanks to local guy with the tug, who I am told, at one point damaged his prop on an ice chunk and then fell in and had to be pulled out ( he is OK )....good grief like someone said.....going to be almost 70F on Tues......... ...... ....
So as of today the bay ice is probably 95% gone, still some snow and ice between boats but 68F (20C) and people all over/ the yard is busy, finally......I have all my new batteries in, anodes on,muskrat guards installed, new windshield screw cover installed and the boat is plugged in and all works fine so far/ engines rolled over, plugs in.....so now just got to bring stuff back from house , remove shrink and do the hull. My best guess will be two weeks.......
Article in the paper about a new ice age because of global cooling, apparently some glaciers are advancing....HMMMMMMM..better get that gas to 20 bucks a gallon and make your money while you can....
Got to 30C (86F)....amazing it was 0 (32F) at about 5am....pleased to report ice 100% gone on bay ( for some here this is great news)...onwards and upwards.....
That’s good to hear! Being in is such a good feeling, although it is flooding where we are at so it’s a constant battle keeping floating logs/trees off my boat.
