Hi guys
I have my carver in the Uk so need to convert the 230v 50nhz shore power to run 120v 60hz on my boat.
I have 2 transformers to sort the 120v part but im stuck getting an inverter or something to step up the 50hz to 60hz
I can get a huge inverter that weighs 500lb & is the size of a washing machine but that seems about it ??
Any ideas please.
Thanks Peter

Re: 120v 60hz to 230v 60 hz
Would you not be better off swapping out the items that use 120v on board with 220v standard UK voltage stuff? We are talking battery charger, and microwave. Fridge is a big ticket item so a small step down transformer just at the fridge would be a good alternative. At least this way you can plug anything purchased in the UK into your boat and have it work properly. Heck you would need to source a 120v kettle if you wanted to make tea! Wiring throughout the boat would be fine as the higher 220v uses less amps and actually uses smaller wiring. the generator could be an issue if you have one.
Just an FYI, No need to worry about the 50hz thing unless there is timing involved. Motors run no issue however the rpm is reduced by about 20%.

Contact GoHz and discuss your needs. Converting the frequency is easy, the challenge might be finding a unit that will handle your boat's full load of 30 or 50 amps without having to install something the size of an ice maker. Make sure the frequency conversion ends up being pure/true sine wave.

You should be able to find a 7.5kva buck boost transformer for about $700 us. This wont change the frequency, but as mentioned above most minor appliances wont be sensitive to the frequency. I would verify the A/C units will work at 50hz with out dropping the capacity to the point you cant cool the boat.
