bilge blower

Postby incontrol » April 27th, 2014, 7:13 pm

Hi my name is Bill Stevens, I just bought a 2005 38 ft. Carver SS I was running the motors today in my slip when I went to turn off the blowers they stayed on but shut off when I shut the motors down, other times when I was taking the boat out for a ride the blowers would turn off when I hit the switch.I was wondering if being plug in at the dock this is a safety measure. any feedback would be great. thanks Bill

Diesel? They run when the engines are on. It's not at all like gasoline engine compartments.
Thanks

They Volvo 8.1 496 gas, I flipped the switch waited a few minute then started the motors then whenI went to turn blowers off they were still running but when I shut the engines off the blowers shut down,I also have a circuit board on the bridge that will shut the blowers off but with the switch they wouldn't

Wish I could help on this. Does the owner's manual mention any sort of switch over-ride so the blowers always run when the engines are on?
Thanks

I know its puzzling I've been out 3 times already in the last couple weeks and had the blowers running when I left the slip then I was able to turn the blowers off with the flip of the switch,I still can turn the blowers off from the circuit board on the bridge.I'm just trying to figure out sounds and mechanics of the boat it took me 7yrs with my Carver to completely understand that. I want to thank you for your input, Bill,in-control

Does your Carver have a FireBoy halon discharge system?

There will be a relay for each blower inline between the breaker (on the DC panel) and the switch on the bridge. I just had the same problem on my 506 and tracked it to this. The relay allows the blowers to be activated by either ignition on or switch on. My 506 was coming on only by breaker, and not by ignition as it was designed. Replaced the relay(s) and back to normal. If your relays are acting up, it would explain the mystery.

Mine we're locate in the engine room, I followed the wires from the blower(s) to a common point were the relay panel was mounted.
