Check that drive lube!! Open the drain plug on the bottom of the drive and make sure there is no water in it. Then open the fill plug and make certain its full.
They are tough drives, but if I breaks, good luck finding the repair parts.

Best wishes.

Good looking boat! I have a '75 2585. Did you get around to working on the vinyl yet? Mine is cracking and I'd love to tackle it this winter. Curious of others experiences.

Got her out on the water and got towed in. First time thought it was a fuel problem and replace fuel filters ( in line at carp and float bowl) also installed a fuel presser gauge. So out we went again the next day and got towed in again by the same SAFETY PATROL boat. They said "Don't come out tomorrow we don't have time for this, its 4th of July".
Ended up being the ignition coil when it got warmed up it cut out. They just don't make them like they use to it was only 45 years old! Now i did a complete tuneup with plugs, coil, condenser, points, wires, cap, and rotor. That took care of the problem!

Cnodnarb, have you tackled you'er vinyl replacement yet. I have two other junker 2585 of same vintage we can dismantle for a better understanding of how to go about removing cabins from the deck to get the vinyl to go all the way like originally done.
