Another Season Comes to an End

Drove her down river for about 3 hrs to her winter resting place. Had her hauled and put on the dry. I pressure washed the hull and all fluids/filters have been changed. Just need to winterize the engines and water system not to mention a quick cleanup of the outside before putting her inside in unheated storage. Probably throw a big tarp over her just to keep the dust at bay.

May go back once in a while before the snow flies to finish up some little unfinished projects.

Nice....Although I am thinking you need more keel blocks....2 not enuf even for a short time.

This seems to vary depending on location and what one is accustomed to. This is standard blocking for all boats my boating area. All marinas I have seen store just like you see for the entire winter.

Hans, you have a very nice boat there over 40', if it were mine there would be at the very least three sets of keel blocks .....if you have the owners manual there may be an instruction on where they recommend the blocking to be placed and how much, usually around bulkheads and machinery areas. Maybe I am being dramatic but better safe than sorry, problems may not arise for years after......sorry man just my opinion.

As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. For all of us up in the northern climate the end of the season is near. I look at winter layup as a positive. For me it is a time I can lay up funds for the following season.

Went to the boat yesterday to find they had moved her inside "The Dome". Big dome that is, my boat looks like a dingy in there. Midnight Sun is the one farthest to the left.



Lots of room left for more boats.

That is one heck of a structure, nice. Wish I could afford putting the boat inside something like that, it would be so much easier on the wife and me.

I much prefer the indoors just for piece of mind and working on the boat in crappy weather sure is a bonus when indoors not to mention removal of tarps and a bunch of other stuff that is required when shrinking. Prices vary wildly depending on area but here you need to pay 16.50/ft for outdoor storage and another 19.00/ft for shrink wrap. Bottom line is 35.50/ft for outdoor storage with the marina doing the shrink. Indoor cost $38/ft so in my case we are talking only $102 extra for indoors. No brainer if you ask me.

Hans if that is a running foot, you have quite the deal there......we are at 5.50 a square ft...so take length and add 1ft then beam and add 1ft.
So your way is 41 x 38 =1,558.....our way, I will assume you are 15 beam.. 42 x 16 = 672 x 5.50 = 3,696 for cold indoor. They want 34 a ft just to shrink and that is if you have a yearly slip.....quite the difference huh....
