My 2018 Season Is Over

Post by RGrew176 »

The time has arrived. My Carver is coming out of the water and will soon begin its long winter nap. Wednesday was a beautiful day. About 50* and 0 wind. It was a perfect day to end the season on.

I took a ride upriver as far as the Grosse Ile free bridge. Then I turned about and headed back downriver towards the marina. I pulled into an open spot by the boat lift. Boat will come out of the water later this morning.

Wow. Water looks awesome! This is the first year in quite a while that I didn't do a gopro clip on my last trip of the season. Usually just a trip out to the lake and back to the hoist the day I get pulled out, or the day before when I'm prepping the boat. The lake is just SOOOO nice this late in the year!

The weather did not cooperate on Thursday. Rained and windy all day so no boats were pulled. Hope that Fridays weather improves enough so the boat can come out of the water.

We are a group of boaters out of the Sandusky area, and enjoy going to Ford Yacht Club, Sugar, Celeron, island, the wall, BobLo. Are the Trenton Fireworks still the big draw? What other spots in the area do you recommend?

I went to the Trenton fireworks this past 4th. They were pretty good. From where we were anchored we could also see Gibraltar and the Metro Park fireworks although they were farther away. Also spent a day at Bob Lo. I hit the Crossdike (wall) a couple of times. We like to go to Dunbar and Sullivan to anchor out. Dunbar is located at the north end of the Livingstone Channel on the west side of the channel.

Crystal Bay is just north of Bob Lo. Used to be THE place to go but not so much anymore. Back in the 80's there could be 100 or more boats rafted and anchored there. If you ever get a chance to go to the Detroit Windsor Freedom Festival Fireworks you should go. They are on a Monday night about a week and a half prior to the 4th.

Elba Mar Boat Club is located on the east side of Grosse Ile across from Sugar Island. Grosse Ile Yacht Club is south of Elba Mar also across from Sugar Island. You pretty much named all the places to visit in the area. It is a great area to boat in.

I'm surprised. I've been hauled out in snow and sleet and several time in the rain. Pretty scary when the docks and decks are covered with a coat of ice.

It was mildly windy when I pulled out this year, and I was talking to the guy at the hoist and asked him if it was every TOO windy. He said "I don't think so... I've pulled some in about 40 mph winds!!"

They got to my boat on Friday. She's now on the hard. I have a couple of things to do before the shrinkwrap goes on.

Had our first snow Friday. Season is definitely over. Glad I am on the hard and hope to complete my tasks aboard so I can get her wrapped up for the winter next week or the week after. Then its wait until spring.

Just 187 days till '19 boating season. I'm already losing it. Going to boat Friday afternoon to have a beverage or 2 in the cockpit. The view off the stern is straight into an anchor of a Cruisers 3870 Express. Will have to play some Island Songs, shut my eyes, and take a cruise to Fred & Fuzzy's in my mind. Anybody want to join me?

Spring will be here. The calendar will march onward. Depending on how hard of a winter we have here I am shooting for an April 3rd launch.
