444/44/396 salon sliding door problem
I have a 2005 44 cpmy . The sliding door into the salon is hard to slide . I have cleaned the tracks as good as one can , that didn't help . I tried SailKote dry lube , that didn't help . Any ideas ?

Re: 444/44/396 salon sliding door problem
Is there a knob on top like my 355's door? Did it get screwed with and tightened? Ours was sticking and a little cleaning & a WD-40 helped. There appeared to be an adjustment at the bottom, but I didn't mess with it yet. If I remember right the screws were on the inside, and were slotted.

Re: 444/44/396 salon sliding door problem
If you've tried lubricating and adjusting, it could be component wear and the only remedy is replacement. The problem is it seems several marine door manufacturers have closed up shop in the last several years. Contact Carver with your hull number, if they don't have replacement hardware, they can give you part number and supplier information. Hopefully the supplier is still around. The other option is to look for a large Carver dealer that may have the components in stock. Yet another option is a marine retailer such as Great Lakes Skipper or a salvage place such as Marine Connection Liquidators in Fort Pierce FL. Depending on the type of hardware, it could be generic and sometimes a Google search can yield satisfactory results or a walk through the local Home Depot door hardware isle.
Good luck, and if you find the parts or the remedy, please share the information for the benefit of others.

Re: 444/44/396 salon sliding door problem
Mine was stiff when I acquired the boat. I first lubed the rollers at the bottom and top of the door which helped but not enough. I then took a long thin scrub brush (looks like a very long baby bottle brush) and scrubbed the rollers with soapy water all the way across to the port side. I rinsed it (there is a scupper at the end of the door track), vacuumed it, and lubed it again. Door slides very nicely. Too much crud had become lodged in the those rollers.

Re: 444/44/396 salon sliding door problem
Thanks Dan . I have washed and washed them and they look really clean but I didn't get a scrub brush . I will try one .
Also the good folks @ Carver told me that each lower roller has an adjustment to raise or lower them . Mine slides 70% ok but the last 30% as your opening it gets tough .
My boat is out where I cant get on it but as soon as it gets back in its slip I will be scrubbing away .

Re: 444/44/396 salon sliding door problem
Ok . Carver was incorrect , there are no adjusters for the rollers . My 1st mate (wife) made a unique cleaning unit so she could get into the track assm. and get it as clean as new and it works much better . I would like to lube the rollers now to get it perfect but I'm afraid lube may gum it up so I'm going to leave well enough alone . Thanks everyone for you help .

Viper , they say this is the best MCLUBE
SailKote High-Performance Dry Lubricant specifically for marine use and I have it but I'm still hesitant .
I think I'll enjoy how well it works as is for a while then maybe try some on it down the road .
I'll update if I do . Thanks

Re: 444/44/396 salon sliding door problem
On my 390 CPMY 1993 I have the same problem and I also don't have a knob on the sliding door, I bought a vacuum handle, the same as builders use to carry glass windows. Now when I slide the door open I use an up lifting force and I have no issues anymore with the sliding door,
