Just picked up my newly purchased 1987 Carver 3807, simply perfect, twin 454 Crusaders, move alng pretty good but thirsty....

Congrats on the new boat! Yes, it will be thirsty. That is about as big a boat as you could get up on plane effectively with the 7.4 engines. Later with the 8.1/8.2's the efficiency became much better. Make sure your hull condition is optimum, your tabs are big enough and your weight distribution is perfect. Don't carry any more fuel/water than you need. That last bit alone will save you a bunch...

A very useful gage for a thirsty boat is a Floscan that is tied to GPS.
You would be surprised how much a slight trim change can make in fuel mileage.
