Replacment vinyl stripes

Post by Cliffm »

Anyone replaced their vinyl stripes? P.O. (first or second?) have removed much of the factory stripes from our 2006 Carver 36 MY. I've found some remining on the port side lower, that appears to be 3/4 or 1" black with 1/4 Gold on top, and a second 1/4 Gold above a 1/4 space.

Is there a "go-to" plce who supplies these stripe kits? or is it just automotive stuff? 3M from Wesco or someone similiar?

We'd like to replace the missing stripes, maybe skip going around the front salon window area? Just do port/starbaord sides, upper & lower areas.

As always, your input is much appreciated!

Cliff; u can google it and find anything u need. But I/M/O, hire a graphics guy or gal and have it custom done. Had our upper stripping done a couple of years ago by one and I can tell u if u don't do it every day it's worth the $$'s to pay to have it done professionally. Believe me u'll screw it up and get pissed at urself. But like I said u can find all kinds of stripping online if u so choose to do it urself.

Cliffm - you may want to connect with Carver. I would not be surprised if they have some. Those rolls are easy to store & do not take up much space. They usually provided the original owner with a roll for repairs. That person probably has them if you know who it is. Good luck! 8-) er

We bought our new stripes from something like hullstripes.com, I believe.
You pick the colors, the widths, and they make them for you. Doesn't take long either. hey use 3M materials.
Thanks

I have used something that was actually labelled as boot stripe tape, auto pin stripe tape, some I got from vinyl sign guy and some I have painted.......all worked fine. The trick as with most things is the prep work.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

I ordered mine from the local lettering shop. Tell them it is for a boat and choose the color from a chart. There are many qualities when it comes to this material and you do need the right stuff being exposed to the elements the way a boat is. I ended up with 3m but not sure which thickness or type, that is where the knowledge of the local lettering place comes in. ;-)

I purchased replacements directly from Carver. They are sold by the foot.
Although It was not an 'exact' replacement for the 2005 vintage, they worked out very well.
I only had to replace a few damaged spots.

Received the "factory " kit from Carver/Marquis Yachts yesterday. We ordered 53' of deck/Helm as we'll replace both, however, we're going to "cut off" the helm stripe as it starts the "bend" on the forward helm area. That way I don't have to crawl over the salon window area, just applying to port/starboard sides of helm.

The stripe kit is definitely "brighter" than the "Hull" stripe, but We'll save that project for another day!

I did purchase a 4" "rubber" wheel to facilitate removing the "old" remaining deck stripe. purchased on amazon $14.95
