2006 Carver 36MY TV cable question
We have a 2006 Carver 36MY, we are owner #3. There are (2) TV's, on in salon cubby next to steps and one in aft stateroom.
Both TV's each have 1byone flat panel TV Antenna's attached, with coax cable undone. There is a "cable box" connection under the swim step stairs. There is also an Omni direction TV antenna on the arch, same area as GPS/Radar dome, installed by first owner.
We would like to be able to use a dockside cable TV hookup, but I'm wondering about this TV antenna on the arch? is it a factory option?
Ideally we'd like a splitter to select cable or antenna, but realize that it must be upstream of a splitter for both TV's.
My question is the factory location of the splitter to both TV's from the cable connection under the stairs?
my other question is access to the "inside" of the salon TV cubby, as it appears the gray cloth behind the TV is glued on?
do most folks undue the DC panel to get better access into this cubby area? such as accessing the rear of CMD4 stereo?
as always, and insight is appreciated!

My boat is several years older than yours, but the cable / antenna switch is behind the tv in the aft cabin. Yours may be there also.

As far as using the antenna on the arch goes you should be able to connect if the antenna is working. My 3007 has that type of antenna mounted on the bridge. You would probably have to buy some sort of converter box to convert the signal to digital. That is the set up I have on my 3007. Works well most of the time. Mine came set up like that.

Rick, just an FYI, there is no digital or analog antenna. They are all the same. TV stations no longer broadcast in analog, so if you don't have an digital (hd) tv tuner it will cannot decode the digital signals.

Another note, if you have analog cable at the dock and you change to your antenna at or away from the dock, you have to rescan for digital channels.

That's why I have the converter box. It's hooked to the cable that comes from the antenna then connected to the TV. It will not work by itself. I tried it first then connected the converter box to the antenna cable to make it work. I pick up about 25 or so channels where I am located.

Re: 2006 Carver 36MY TV cable question
If your using crt tvs 4:3 ratio then you will need a analog to digital tv convertor thst was used at the onset of the change from analog to digital but if you have flat panel 16:9 ratio digital tv you will not need a convertor box. You m a y need to locate the amplifier for the round omni antenna on the arch see its powere or not. And rescanning for channels for cable and over the air signals when your at dock or anchored out like was mentioned earlier. But antennas are antennas nothing different about analog or digital some are better yes than others but signal strength and the sensitivity of the tuners makes the difference of what's picked up.

Mine is a 2007 so I would assume similarly wired. The switch under the stairs allow for A/B selection. Arch mounted antenna or dockside cable. Maybe you already have it? Under the protective cover where your shore power is you may have one marked telephone/cable.

Thanks, I'll check for this switch and ohm out the connection next to the shore power connection, so I know which is which.
Thanks for the insight, as always, it is much appreciated!
